Music History

During my time at Capilano University, I took a music history class that pushed me both academically and creatively in my education. This class provided me with my first experience in researching and gathering trusted sources for my writing at a university level. This course also required listening exams where we would have a list of 60 pieces of music within an era and have to memorize and write the technical information about each. I had never experienced this type of education before, and it required me to learn new study strategies. One of the most valuable educational experiences within this course, however, was our final project. In groups of four, we were required to compose our own piece of music using certain criteria. This was my first experience of learning through inquiry-based education. Overall, this course challenged me to do my best work both academically and creatively using different forms of teaching methods.
